Chloride
The above figure shows that chloride concentrations are very low for the majority of Wairau Plain groundwaters, but increase sharply along the edges where flow is sluggish. Values remain low along the central coastal area despite the existence of chloride-rich marine deposits, due to the diluting effect of the free-flowing gravels. The higher values in the Taylor Pass area represent landfill monitoring site results.
