The Marlborough Emergency Management (MEM) Group is based at the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) on Wither Road. MEM works in partnership with other emergency services, lifeline utilities and partner agencies to prepare for and manage emergencies.
There are sixteen CDEM Groups across New Zealand, one in each region. At a national level, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides leadership. MEM work closely with NEMA and with the other CDEM Groups, particularly our direct neighbours in Canterbury and Nelson/Tasman.
The Group’s work is focussed across the “4Rs” of emergency management: Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery.
MEM has a small number of employees and relies heavily on volunteers to ensure Marlborough can maintain a sustained response. We always need more people:
MEM leads the volunteer response team NZ-RT20. This nationally accredited team is well suited for people interested in an active response role, sometimes supporting other frontline emergency services.
MEM’s response to emergencies at the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) is supported by a team of trained volunteers and Council staff – the Incident Management Team.
