About Us (CDEM)
Emergencies happen! The team at Civil Defence and Emergency Management (Marlborough CDEM) works with all our communities to make sure we're prepared for an emergency.
Marlborough CDEM is responsible for the delivery of civil defence and emergency management response throughout the Marlborough region. We have our own plans and guidelines and you can see more of them here. We're based at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at 4 Wither Road. In an emergency the planning and operational activity are run from the EOC.
CDEM in New Zealand is about more than the people employed by local authorities. That's no different in Marlborough. In an emergency, if you see a firefighter, a member of Police or a Red Cross volunteer, you're seeing part of the wider CDEM response.
We also work with civil defence centre sector groups. These are groups of trained volunteers in communities across Marlborough who can support a civil defence centre if it is needed in an emergency.
We also have superb volunteers working in the Emergency Operations Centre during an event and providing front-line response when it's needed. Our volunteers also help us maintain a public presence.
