In March 2023 the Small Township Programme supported by Grovetown School hosted a community consultation day.
This event and associated survey offered an opportunity for the local community to have their say on the future development of outdoor community spaces. what you think of it.
About Grovetown
Residents say:
- they have the best of both worlds – a rural lifestyle with easy access to services in Blenheim
- they enjoy using the walking and cycleways, and having access to an abundance of green spaces, including Grovetown Lagoon
- being part of a friendly community, with the school providing a community hub.
How it can be even better
Residents identified these ways to enhance Grovetown:
- address safety issues related to State Highway 1 and the railway line
- make improvements to the school pool and tennis court
- further enhance natural areas.
Upcoming projects
Projects to be completed in 2023/24 include:
- Vickerman Street footpath improvements to make it safer and easier to access to the school and community facilities
- repairs to the school’s swimming pool and tennis courts
- landscaping for the northern side of the Fell Street cycleway
- artwork on the Chorus Cabinet
- development of a new playground in Vickerman Street.
Future opportunities
These projects are also included in the Plan, for future consideration:
- a kea crossing at the school and other traffic calming measures
- a cycleway from Fell Street to Steam Wharf Road
- a path and planting at the corner of SH1 and Vickerman Street
- a pedestrian crossing over the railway line at the corner of Fell Street and SH1
- signage at the entrance to Grovetown to promote the township’s unique identity.
