About the Small Townships Programme

The Marlborough District Council has included funding in the Long Term Plan to provide an integrated planning and design process for improving public amenities in small townships as part of implementing the Growing Marlborough Strategy.

The purpose of this programme is to:

• Design a liveable town with an attractive central space
• Allow freedom of movement, connectivity and accessibility
• Strengthen a sense of place and unique identity
• Enhance the use, enjoyment and pride in outdoor public spaces

Projects that provide for new or improved outdoor public spaces are eligible to be included in this programme. Examples of the types of projects are community spaces, recreation areas, landscaping and streetscape upgrades to improve walking and cycling.
