The Tui to Town project, established in 2008, ran until 2020. The project promoted protection of existing areas of native vegetation and the planting of new areas to help provide stepping stones of habitat for native birds, specifically tui. The project also encouraged the public to report native bird sightings to build a picture of what birds species were present, food sources and behaviours. The Tui to Town programme has now been superseded by the new grant scheme created by Marlborough District Council in 2020: Working for Nature/Mahi mō te Taiao. These new grants were created to encapsulate and build on the success of both the Tui to Town programme and Greening Marlborough pilot programme.
