Materials that contain asbestos

If you think you have materials that may contain asbestos, you will have to arrange to have these tested by a professional.

You can find a list of accredited asbestos testing services by visiting the IANZ website directory and searching under 'asbestos'.

This will help you decide how to handle the materials.

Please note that Council does not provide an asbestos testing service.

How the asbestos regulations affect home-owners

The asbestos regulations that came into force on 4 April 2016 cover businesses and workers removing asbestos. It includes a licensing system and training requirements. Home-owners need to be aware of these regulations, particularly if they are going to have work carried out on their home and their home may include asbestos.
