There are difficulties when building on land that is subject to natural hazards. In section 72 of the Building Act 2004 it sets out the requirements for a building consent if the building work is taking place on land subject to a natural hazard.
Building in a natural hazard area may result in the building consent being refused or, if building control is satisfied the provisions of Section 72 of the Building Act 2004 have been met, the building consent may be granted however a Section 72 notation may be entered on the record of title.
