Tell us what you think of the draft Rārangi Township Plan
We have developed a draft Rārangi Township Plan based on feedback from the community, and we’d love to hear what you think of it.
About Rārangi
Residents say:
- they love the seaside outlook and the flora and fauna, and they want to play their part in protecting and restoring the natural environment
- Rārangi is a welcoming and accessible place for all ages and stages of life, and opportunities for active travel, and recreational walking and cycling, are important
- they want to share the history of Rārangi to help others to appreciate and respect this area.
How it can be even better
Residents identified these ways to enhance Rārangi:
- upkeep and enhancement of existing infrastructure (particularly the community hall’s outdoor area)
- improved accessibility for older people (including seating and a bus service), activities for teens, and clearer signage about dog exercise areas
- protection of the natural areas from incompatible uses (vehicle access and freedom camping) and from development
- more signage and storyboards about the history of Rārangi and its ecological values.
What Council can do
The Plan includes Council’s commitments to:
- work with iwi and the Rārangi Residents Association on signage and information panels, including cultural and historical content, at Blue Gum Corner
- support the Hinepango Wetland Restoration Group with restoration work at Hinepango Wetland
- collaborate with Marlborough Roads to create a ‘First to See the Sun’ sign at the entrance to Rārangi and to enhance the area outside Edgewater Estate
- work with Marlborough Roads, Department of Conservation, Rārangi Fire Service and the Rārangi Residents Association to develop the current recreation area beside the community hall.
Future opportunities
Additional projects in the Plan, for future consideration, include:
- repair of the pump track, which is a mountain bike track on the Department of Conservation land
- addition of basketball facilities to the existing tennis courts
- signage celebrating the natural environment
- planting and restoration
- cycle and walkways.
Please take a look at the draft Rārangi Township Plan and let us know what you think. Feedback received by 8.00 am Monday 18 September 2023 will be used to finalise this plan.
