Pollution
Follow Up Action
Council has several options for addressing the situation. This includes:
- Providing education to the alleged offender, outlining the relevant rules.
- Sending a formal warning letter to inform them of the possible repercussions if the behaviour persists.
- An officer may visit the site to discuss the incident directly with the responsible party.
- Instruct that the activity stop and collect evidence for possible enforcement actions.
- The attending officers may prepare a report that the Quality Assurance Peer Review Group will evaluate. This group can action an abatement notice, an infringement, or court action.
Council staff present at an incident are focused on halting pollution and collecting evidence, but they do not have the authority to make enforcement decisions. The MDC will refrain from discussing the incident, aside from gathering necessary information, until investigations are complete, and any enforcement matters are resolved.
