Each Catchment Care project is unique and may require a mix of solutions. In general, programme funds will be used in high priority catchments for:
- Catchment condition surveying
- Catchment enhancement planning
- Catchment remediation, which can include but is not limited to:
- Riparian fencing,
- Native plantings carried out to the standards in the North Marlborough and South Marlborough planting guides, and
- Dung beetles to improve manure and water absorption.
- Correction of critical source areas (CSAs). These are small, low-lying areas of land where runoff accumulates in high concentration. Runoff from CSAs carry sediment and nutrients to waterways.
Additional funding may be available via the Hill Country Erosion Fund, to assist with tree planting, retirement fencing and reversion on erosion-prone hills.
