Location: Sinclair Street (SH 1), Blenheim
How things change and how quickly we forget. Many years ago the Blenheim Railway Station stood directly on Sinclair Street (State Highway 1); now it always seems to have been where it is. Some 200 metres to the northeast the station building of today is easily recognisable as the station building of 1913.
It moved with the times to survive, adapted to an alternative site. It is still a memorable building and contributes positively to our sense of who and where we are and echoes the era that preceded us - a worthy outcome, which illustrates how, in various circumstances, the best way to retain a heritage structure might be to be flexible and adapt it for current needs.
