Spring Creek is a highly valued, picturesque waterway, but in recent years, concerns have been raised over changes in the water quality, water clarity, and flow levels and a perceived decline in the trout fishery.
A stakeholders' meeting convened by Marlborough District Council in 1999 identified a number of issues concerning the condition and management of the creek and agreed that a group of agencies should investigate the present condition of the creek and explore solutions to any problems detected.
As a result of this the Marlborough District Council, Fish & Game NZ - Nelson Marlborough Region, Department of Conservation, and the Cawthron Institute began a one year collaborative study.
This report presents the results of that study and although it does not attempt to find solutions to all the problems identified during discussions and fieldwork, it does offer information on the present condition of the creek and recommendations for further action.
