Monitoring Project
A monitoring programme has been set up so that the ongoing condition of the 80 sites identified and protected through the Significant Natural Areas programme is assessed regularly. This assessment includes checking the actual protection work carried out (fencing, weed control etc), assessing the condition and health of the site and meeting with landowners and identifying any issues that may have arisen.
Monitoring occurs every two to three years and started in 2006. About 35 sites are monitored by Council with the majority of the other sites being covenanted and monitored by the QEII National Trust.
