Picton turns out for seniors’ expo
It was a day of connection and discovery at the inaugural Picton Seniors' Expo at the Port Marlborough Pavilion in November.
More than 100 attendees enjoyed visiting 40 diverse stalls highlighting the services and resources available to older adults in Picton and across Marlborough including local healthcare providers, social clubs, transport services and community groups.
“The expo exceeded our expectations with positive feedback received from both participants and visitors. The event's success was not only due to the wealth of information available but also the welcoming atmosphere. Marina Cove contributed to everyone’s enjoyment by providing scones, tea, and coffee for attendees as well as local music performances,” Council’s Community Partnerships Advisor Jodie Griffiths said.
“All stallholders were eager to share information and connect with the seniors who visited. Many attendees expressed their appreciation for the chance to learn more about the resources available to them, with several commenting on how the event opened their eyes to services they had not known existed in their community,” she said.
With such a positive response, Council plans to make the expo a biennial event.
“The hope is that the event will become a regular fixture on the local calendar, offering a valuable space for seniors to discover new opportunities and support networks. Council expresses its gratitude to everyone who helped make the day a true community event including the stallholders, volunteers and attendees,” she said.
