Sewer overflow at Waikawa Bay
A sewer overflow occurred at the Waikawa Bay sewer pump station on Sunday as a result of a power cut. The problem was discovered this morning when Marlborough Lines were attending to another power fault in the same location.
Swimming or contact with the water is not recommended. Shellfish should not be collected until further notice.
The overflow discharged into the bay through a submerged stormwater discharge, shown in the photo attached - the red dotted arrow is pointing to it.
The Council is taking water samples this afternoon and putting up warning signage.
