About the Strategy
The COVID pandemic posed both challenges and opportunities for different industry sectors in our region. The first two years of the pandemic, in particular, forced many businesses to adapt: some to overcome new challenges, others to embrace new opportunities.
Council's TEAM group's COVID recovery plan was rolled out to support businesses through the worst of the pandemic. However, new challenges and changes continued to emerge for businesses, as well as entire sectors.
From mid-2021, Council held meetings and huis with stakeholder groups in the community to start the conversation about an economic development strategy. After public consultation, the region’s first economic development strategy was adopted to support a shared vision for the future, with a focus on improving economic wellbeing and productivity in Marlborough over the next 10 years.
