Dog Control Policy and Bylaw Review
The Dog Control Act 1996 and the Local Government Act 2002 require dog control bylaws to be reviewed every 10 years. A special consultative procedure has been completed.
Hearings Panel Recommendation June 2021
The Hearings Panel Recommendation Report and final draft policy and bylaw were presented for adoption to the Council's Environment Committee meeting on 10 June 2021. They now need to be ratified by the full Council on 24 June 2021.

Submissions
Submissions opened 18 September 2020 and closed 9 November 2020.

Submissions and Hearings
The proposed policy and bylaw review received 679 submissions and also a petition signed by 699 people opposing dogs being on leash along the Taylor River Reserve.
The hearings that followed the submission period gave an opportunity for submitters to highlight and explain the issues raised in their written submissions and for the Hearing Panel to make enquires to understand their position.
The Hearing Panel, consisting of Chair Clr Arbuckle and Councillors' Nadine Taylor, Thelma Sowman and Barbara Faulls, also did some site visits prior to the hearings.
The Panel have completed the deliberations phase and have considered all the written submissions alongside the additional comments heard during the hearings. Some additional site visits were undertaken in early 2021.
