Tyrewise
How tyres are managed in New Zealand will be changing from late 2023 onwards under a new scheme called Tyrewise. More information can be found at the Tyrewise website:

An extract from the Tyrewise website follows:
Tyrewise is Aotearoa New Zealand’s first regulated product stewardship scheme for recycling used tyres.
Tyrewise will minimise the environmental impacts of end-of-life tyres by managing all tyres from collection through to processing. From tracking tyres, to registration and auditing of participants, as well as incentivising innovative end uses – together we will deliver a positive outcome for our communities and our environment.
You can find out more information on what part you can play in the Tyrewise scheme and sign up for updates by visiting the Tyrewise website:

Council will update the community on any changes to how we handle tyres as the implementation of the Tyrewise scheme is finalised.
What do we do with tyres just now?
At present tyres can be left with tyre retailers when you have them replaced (charges apply). If you have old tyres that have reached the end of their usefulness you can take these to any transfer station where they will be accepted if they are free from contamination (charges apply).
