Food and beverage cartons (also know as Tetra Pak®) can now be recycled into building boards.
You may be aware that two amazing Marlborough ladies have been running a Facebook page called Tetra Punks where they’ve been collecting these products and taking them to Motueka to be sent for recycling.
Marlborough now has its own drop off point so all these products can be recycled and removed from our landfill. The national statistics estimated that there are 30 tonnes of this product being sent to the landfill annually.
As 70% of these cartons contain paperboard, they are considered an organic product that emit the largest amount of greenhouse gases.
It is important that these products are delivered in the required format as they become smelly very quickly if they are not.
Deliver your prepared food and beverage cartons for recycling to the Resource Recovery Centre. The collection point can be located outside the Reuse Shop.
