Pay by Plate Parking (PBP)
Metered car parks in Marlborough use the Pay By Plate ticketless parking system. Pay By Plate uses your vehicle licence plate number to record your parking start time and payment.
Blenheim and Picton metered car parks are grouped by ‘zone’, and each zone has a unique time limit and tariff. Therefore, it is important to ensure you use the correct meter for the zone your vehicle is parked in to avoid an infringement, including starting a new session if you move between zones.
Remember, if you don't see "Transaction completed", your license plate hasn't been registered and you will be liable for an infringement.
Entering your vehicle licence plate number
You are required to enter the correct vehicle licence plate number when paying for your parking.
The Pay By Plate machine will display the vehicle licence number you have entered and the parking time selected before you finalise the transaction. If the vehicle licence number is wrong, select 'Cancel' and restart the process.
If you enter the wrong vehicle licence plate number and press 'OK' at the final confirmation screen, the transaction cannot be reversed or credited at the Pay By Plate machine. You may incur a parking infringement if you input the incorrect vehicle licence number because Parking Officers will not be able to see a payment recorded against your vehicle.
Extending the parking time
You can extend the parking time for up to the maximum time allowed in that parking zone.
To extend the time, go to any PBP machine in the same zone and enter your vehicle licence number. Follow the instructions on the screen to add a payment and extend the time you can park. This process will not allow you to extend the total time beyond the maximum time allowed for that zone.
