Wither Hills Management Plan
Since the original purchase of land on the Wither Hills in 1944 to address soil conservation issues, a huge amount of effort over many years by the former Marlborough Catchment Board and Marlborough District Council has gone into stabilising these hills to protect Blenheim. Today the Farm Park’s role as a soil and water conservation reserve is as important as ever.
However, for many people the Wither Hills Farm Park (Park) is a place to walk, run, mountain bike, experience the feel of being in the ‘country’ or simply recognise its place as a backdrop to Blenheim. Along with issues around managing fire risk, biodiversity restoration, invasive species control and vegetation management, the need for integrated management of the Park is key.
The current management plan produced in 2003 (see below) has been invaluable in providing management direction for the last two decades. However, much has changed over the last 20 years and a review of this document has taken pace. The Draft Wither Hills Management Plan 2024 is now available for public feedback. The feedback period opened on 10 June 2024 and will close on 9 August 2024.
