Freshwater Management Units

Six Freshwater management units (FMUs) are proposed for Marlborough. These are large areas which meet the NPS-FM 2020 requirement “from the mountains to the sea” in terms of catchment scale.

We heard during the first round of engagement that the Awatere and East Coast Complex FMU needed a boundary adjustment to better reflect the way the community saw the areas. We also heard feedback regarding the large scale of the areas. This is being taken into account in our ongoing work on FMUs and the wider NPS-FM implementation.
